Barking Owl music and sound design lands in Chicago

Barking Owl, creators of award-winning music, sound design, audio mixing, and sonic branding, is opening an office in Chicago at the Working From_ facilities of The Hoxton Chicago.

Currently with offices in New York and Los Angeles, the move expands Barking Owl’s footprint to the Midwest.

Barking Owl’s work was heard in two Super Bowl ads. They also had a part in the Beyonce Levis’ spot, as well as Pepsi, Beats and the NBA on ESPN. Their work on State Farm’s ‘Batman vs. Bateman’ from Highdive, happens to be this week’s Reel Ad of The Week on Reel Chicago.


Senior Engineer, Marina Killion, will be at the helm in Chicago, and Barking Owl’s current L.A. engineer, Brad Beasley, is relocating to Chicago to serve as a junior engineer. Mary Bonham is the producer.

Killion is a highly experienced Senior Audio Engineer with a proven track record of sixteen years in the industry. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of audio disciplines, including sound design, dialogue editing, Foley, ADR, and mixing. She has achieved notable success in mixing numerous feature-length and short films, documentaries, television pilots, and web series. Specializing in commercial advertising, Killion has contributed to many high-profile campaigns for brands such as Absolut, General Mills, Tostitos, Pepsi, Claritin, Famous Footwear, CDW, and Olive Garden.

Killion’s background in classical musical performance and her studies in Sound Recording Technology at DePaul University have provided a strong foundation for her accomplishments. Her work has been showcased at prestigious venues and festivals, including Cannes’ Fantastic Pavilion, Sundance, the Chicago International Film Festival, Chicago Comedy Festival, Midwest Film Festival, Micheaux Film Fest, and Festival of Cinema NYC. Her notable achievements include a Silver Addy award, a shortlisting for the 2020 AICP awards, and the 2022 Best Sound Design award for the short film Warren? at the Festival de Cine Europeo de PR.

The Barking Owl Chicago office is expected to open in April.
