At age 41, Macualey Culkin is having a midlife crisis

Macaulay Culkin has been part of our pop culture ever since he was 10 years old.

We were all hooked back in 1990, the moment we met the precocious Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) in the Chicago based, John Hughes holiday classic, Home Alone, directed by Chris Columbus, co-starring Katherine O’Hara and a surprisingly cleaned mouth Joe Pesci.

Jump forward 31 years and Culkin is now having himself a midlife crisis which he will be showcasing for us all in a travel docuseries titled Macaulay Culkin’s Midlife Crisis.

The premise for the show revolves around the now 41 year old Culkin as he travels the world to try to figure out what it means to get old.

What started out as a self deprecating tweet from the former child star got the attention of two-time Academy Award winning producer, Jonathan Chinn and Emmy Award winning producer Simon Chinn; who together have formed Lightbox which describes itself as a media company who is focused on high quality, non-fiction content that can be viewed across all kinds of platforms.

As originally reported in Deadline, the enthused pair released a statement commemorating this new partnership:

“Mack remains as iconic, and as loved as ever — a social media sensation, internet entrepreneur and a hard-working member of his pizza-themed Velvet Underground tribute band … Despite his legendary status, like the rest of us, he’s having to confront what it means to be a normal middle-aged guy, with a wife and a new kid who’s soon going to be the same age he was when he became a massive global superstar. We are thrilled to be working through our mid-life crises with him on this exciting project!”

Culkin responded as only he knows best:

“Wow, Lightbox. Thanks for reminding me I’m in my 40s. Well, rather than make a big deal about it I figure we should just make a show about it. Makes sense.”

Macaulay Culkin’s Midlife Crisis will be produced through a collaboration between Lightbox and Culkin’s manager Emily Gerson Saines. With HBO being the likely landing spot for the guaranteed binge worthy series.

Culkin has recently gotten high praise for his role as Mickey in the lauded American Horror Stories and is also the host of his very own podcast, Bunny Ears.

While most of the people going though a midlife crisis might splurge on a new car, get a new hairdo, or even buy a brand new pair of leather pants that they should absolutely never ever wear, Culkin gets to have his own series. Undoubtably something that could even help guide others approaching midlife, as I’m sure the series will not only be fun, but also take a good hard look at what it actually means to get older.
