Art guru Kistler’s kids series draws a TV deal

Art guru Mark Kistler ? a kids’ TV star since 1986 and an inspiration to many of today’s leading animators ? returns in a new HD series created and co-produced by long-time collaborator, Northbrook’s Rob Neustadt.

“The Imagination Station,” aimed at six to 14-year olds, will be distributed to public TV stations by National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA), to premiere Sept. 14.

An offering went out to all 330 public TV stations last week for the 26-week episode series, and Neustadt has already received interest from “around 35 stations,” including WNET in New York.

“There’s a lot out there for young kids, but not so much for that age group,” states Neustadt. “Mark keeps kids entertained for hours.”

Known as the “Prince of Pencil Power,” Kistler is noted for teaching students the keys to adding depth and perspective to drawings.

“He introduces them not just to art, but to science, nature and history. I’m happy to help him deliver what he routinely does live for a TV audience.”

He explains the techniques used on great works of art in his “Master’s Gallery” segments.

Kistler’s cult following includes former students Miley Cyrus, and Dreamworks’ animation supervisor, Rex Grignon (“Shrek”), and a multitude more who follow his tours and post loving tributes online.
