Apply for Energy BBDO job by submitting Chicago video

Applicants for the Energy BBDO postproduction assistant job now have until midnight Sunday night to submit their qualifications – but not by the cover-letter-resume old school way, however.

BBDO’s ad posted on Craigslist April 18 originally gave applicants three days – until April 21 – “to display a wide variety of their talents in a 30-60-second video detailing their own story about Chicago.”

So far the ad had generated a large number of video applications and more are expected since the deadline has been extended another four days, says Katrina Cabrera, Energy’s spokespersons.

“Turn things around very quickly on tight deadlines,” she adds.  “Part of the ask here is to show us what you can do in a very short time frame.”

The new hire will assist postproduction supervisor Dustin Camilleri in the day-to-day running of the facility, and also be involved in in-house productions and creative post projects.  He will also assist the two full-time editors.

“We’re anxious to get someone aboard as quickly as possible,” Cabrero says, as the agency’s in-house editorial/post department has taken on a new form and increased assignments since Rowley Samuel came from DDB Chicago late last year to head Energy BBDO’s Integrated Production Department.

Camilleri and Samuel came up with the idea of the video.
“They felt the best possible way to judge if a candidate could deliver what they needed was to give them a creative assignment with a tough deadline – just like they’d be getting in real life,” says Cabrera.

The video also would visually demonstrate the job-seeker’s array of talents, since the job qualifications include “being well-versed in editing, motion graphics and videography to assist with various tasks in our busy, multi-discipline in-house facility.”

Chief creative officer Dan Fietsam, Camilleri and Samuel will make the hiring decision.
