Video production and creative web firm AKA Media Inc., is Chicago’s sole privately held media company to make Inc. Magazine’s 2010 list of 5,000 fastest growing companies. The company was also listed in 2009.
“We’re a 12-year overnight sensation,” says CEO/ executive producer Andrew Krause, who is grateful for his company’s success despite the rough economy affecting the industry.
The company ranked #4,615 in 2010, thanks to a continuing 15% growth rate since 2006. Revenues reached $2.4 million in 2009, a $200,000 increase in 12 months.
In 2009, the company averaged a 24.3% increase in revenue, ranking #4,627. A three-year income growth is one of the criteria for Inc. Magazine recognition.
“The pace of social media development by major brands and the sheer demand for high-quality digital video content are a major contributing factors to our growth,” says Krause,
“Being on the list helps our SEO results, for those looking for AKA or companies like us. This year we’ve come to the first page when users type in ?aka’, improving our credibility,” he added.
The creative boutique assists clients jump on board the digital media revolution. AKA considers itself the team for “all the in-betweens” and “behind the scenes” for many recognizable brands, such as the Milk Producers’ “Got Milk?,” Oreo cookies, Oscar Mayer Weinermobile and McDonald’s Dollar Menu at Breakfast.

Krause notes that one out of every four AKA clients use some Spanish component to their product. By providing the service, Krause “makes life better for our agencies. It’s more of a ?necesidad.'”
Recent bi-lingual shoots feature Chicago Bear Roberto Garza (“Kraft”), Shaila Durcal (“Unilever’s Degree”), and Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family”).
Krause who founded AKA Media in 1998, and AKA president Timothy Parker are SIU alumni and former public relations specialists. Krause spent seven years with Golin/Harris Communications, Chicago and JohnstonWells in Denver; Parker worked five years at St. Louis-based PR and integrated marketing firm Fleishman-Hillard.
