39 Chicago actresses featured in audition doc “Casting About”?screens Feb. 7 at MWFF

Three hundred and fifty actresses in five cities including Chicago auditioned in 2000 for a feature film called “Moving Still.”

That film hasn’t been made yet, but you can catch the results nonetheless when the documentary “Casting About” has its local premiere Feb. 7 at the first 2006 installment of the Midwest Independent Film Festival.

Director Barry Hershey and producer Lewis Wheeler were planning to incorporate some of the audition footage into “Moving Still,” a planned drama about a World War II combat photographer and his relationship with an art model in New York after the war.

But as editor Mark Grossman began cutting the auditions, the filmmakers began to find that footage more compelling than the fictional narrative.
