Three years after moving back from Los Angeles to his native Chicago, veteran film and TV horror maven Gary Sherman has almost completed his first feature in 15 years, a serial killer movie called “39 ? A Film by Carroll McKane.”
Sherman’s first independent film, “39” is told entirely from the point of view of nine video cameras in a serial murderer’s killing room/home video studio.
ReelChicago talked to Sherman about “39” and “Death Line,” and why his first and latest films are his favorites in a career that includes “Poltergeist III,” “Vice Squad,” and “Wanted: Dead or Alive.”
ReelChicago: Why is your new film subtitled “A Film by Carroll McKane”?
Sherman: Carroll, the main character, is actually making the film. I put myself in the position of helping Carroll make the film. I had to put myself in Carroll’s shoes and work with Martin Cummins, who plays Carroll, and help him make a film about himself. I don’t think a film like this has ever been made. At least I’ve never seen a film like this.
