Good Pitch Chicago 2015 to hear 6 local doc makers

Six Chicago documentarians have been selected out of more than 100 international submissions for a place in the next round of Good Pitch Chicago, on May 5, 2015.

Good Pitch Chicago 2015 gives six teams of documentary filmmakers the rare and valuable opportunity to conduct a 7-minute pitch to 300 potential investors and strategic partners at historical Thalia Hall in Pilsen.

The lucky directors are Michael Collins, “Almost There;”

Margaret Byrne, “Raising Bertie;” Kim Snyder, “Untitled Newtown Project” Lyric R. Cabral and David Felix Sutcliffe, “(T)error;”

Jason Zeldes, “Romeo is Bleeding” and Sharon Shattuck, “From this Day Forward.”

In keeping with Good Pitch’s mission of addressing a topic of social change, “We arrived at projects on a wide range of topics that balance bringing world class filmmakers to town and showcasing Chicago’s own strong documentary scene,” notes Danny Alpert, Planning Committee board member.

The filmmakers will pitch their concepts to an invited group of national and Midwest philanthropists, foundations, social impact enterprise and nonprofits.

After the screenings, the floor is open for a feedback session, encouraging everyone in the room to ask questions, offer advice, and participate in a discussion about how to move the films’ impact forward.

Chicago Media Project (CMP), founded by Steve Cohen and Paula Froehle, is Good Pitch Chicago’s major 2015 supporter. Its mission is to connect impact documentary funders with their creators, the end goal being to build Midwest networks and support and create a magnet for impact media in Chicago using the power of media to effect social change.

Serving on the Good Pitch Chicago Planning Board are attorney Cohen, documentary funder, member of Impact Partners Film Services; Froehle, CMP’s executive director and doc maker; Kartemquin’s executive director Justine Nagan; Kindling Group CEO Danny Alpert; John Murray, Tribeca Flashpoint Academy faculty dean and filmmaker and Erin Sorenson of Third Stage Consulting.
