The third annual Women in Film Night lit up Kinowerks Studio on Saturday, June 28, with a vibrant celebration of femme and queer voices in filmmaking.
What began as a personal passion project by local filmmaker Isabella Siska and her company 3133 Films, has grown into one of Chicago’s most inspiring grassroots film gatherings.
The event, now co-organized with Chicago’s own Which Witch Productions, drew a packed crowd to Kinowerks — the former creative home of the Wachowski Sisters, famed directors of The Matrix. The evening offered more than just screenings and conversation, it was a full-spectrum celebration of creativity and community.
“Whether you’re a new voice or a seasoned filmmaker, this is a space for connection, celebration, and pushing the industry forward,” said Siska.
The highlight of the night was a powerful panel of six Chicago-based femme filmmakers working across various roles in the industry. Topics ranged from battling imposter syndrome, channeling your inner child to unlock creativity, reimagining the industry if it were up to them, and navigating resources as a filmmaker in Chicago. The discussion resonated deeply with the audience, sparking emotional responses and a renewed sense of purpose.
“It was a reminder that an inclusive and creative community is a powerful form of fuel,” said Siska.
In a lively blend of artistry, connection, and insight, twelve artists set up shop for the curated art market, offering jewelry, tattoos, tarot readings, chainmaille, tooth gems, 2D/3D mixed media, photography, and art prints. With an open bar, live music, and a welcoming atmosphere, attendees explored, mingled, and connected with peers.
