Web comedy “Bad Sides” bows at live screening

The pilot of “Bad Sides, the comedy webisodes created by Nathan Adloff, Justin D.M. Palmer and Danny Rhodes, will debut in a live show Nov. 21 at the Uptown Lounge.

Rhodes plays a flamboyant first-time director using family money to produce an ill-conceived drama about a farm woman prostituting herself to pay for a medical operation to “de-gay” her 16-year-old grandson.

The pilot features Rhodes and his assistants, Adloff, Sadieh Rifai, Tina Shaw and Kristen Toomey, auditioning cast for the film.

West plays “a fictionalized version of herself who gets roped in to auditioning for the dreaded role of the grandmother,” says Palmer, head writer of the series.

Brian Levin (“Cyrus”) shot the pilot in August on a Canon 7D at Gorilla Tango Theatre (also a partner and venue for Lady Parts’ sketch comedy live shows and web series).

The second 22-minute episode shoots in December, followed by another episode in each of the succeeding four months. “If someone picked it up and ordered more episodes, of course, we’d make more,” Palmer says.

“We want to have a great home for Chicago comedic talent to be on a locally run, locally shot episodic comedy sitcom show.”

Cliff Chamberlain, Brennan Buhl and Mary Sohn will guest star in upcoming episodes.

“We’re also trying a real grassroots way of sharing it with Chicago audiences, which is to host screening parties that include live stand-up comedy, hosted at a bar with food and drinks, Q&A with stars/writers afterwards, and live music,” Palmer says. “We’re hoping the idea takes off.”
