In his new ECD role,
the Australian
will oversee Unltd’s
creative output,
bringing international
experience to Chicago shop
We Are Unlimited announced that Derek Green has joined the agency as Executive Creative Director.
Reporting to CCO Toygar Bazarkaya, Green joins the Chicago-based team as they expand the agency’s creative ambitions for a demanding McDonald’s client.
In this role, Green will help oversee Unlimited’s creative output and build momentum for the agency’s future. He brings with him a passion for building teams that deliver successful, customer-driven creative campaigns for iconic global brands, as well as a keen knowledge of the McDonald’s QSR industry landscape.
“Over the years, Derek has proven that he can create award-winning work. He is also able to build and lead large teams. That combination of skills is rare in our business. Then add his experience and enthusiasm and you’ve got the perfect fit for Unlimited. I couldn’t be more excited!” said Bazarkaya.
Green has over 25 years of international experience, including a wealth of expertise in the QSR space, with extensive 360 work for brands like KFC. Most recently, Green served as Executive Creative Director at Ogilvy Sydney, where he led creative across accounts such as AMEX, IBM, Lion Breweries, Nestle, Coca-Cola, Kimberly-Clark, Optus and Transport for NSW. Prior to his role at Ogilvy, Green served as SVP, Executive Creative Director at Cramer-Krasselt in Chicago, which was named Most Effective Independent Agency at the 2014 North American EFFIEs. His work has won Gold EFFIEs in both Australia and the wider APAC region, as well as Gold and Silver Cannes Lions across three continents.
“I conducted a worldwide search for my next challenge and it brought me back to Chicago—the unique offer of Unlimited was, without doubt, the most exciting creative opportunity [for me],” said Green in a statement. “Meeting the client and agency teams and discussing their aspirations, together with the unique connected creativity offering at Unlimited, was a no-brainer for me; I had to be part of it.”
Green’s hire follows the appointment of Sumer Friedrichs as the agency’s Chief Production Officer in late 2018.
With McDonald’s creating more and more competition between agencies – TBWA\Chiat\Day L.A. won the McCafe business
last year and is now doing breakfast – it only makes sense for WAU to beef up its creative team.
Reel Chicago wishes Green all the best in his new role.
