The Chi ready to roll into Season 6

The Chi series has been renewed for Season 6 on Showtime.

The Chicago made series is about to set a new record, as one of the most watched shows in Showtime’s history, growing their audience by over 20% from last season.

Creator / Executive Producer, Lena Waithe announced minutes ago on Instagram, “We are beyond excited to continue to tell these stories and to watch these characters grow.”

Waithe took a moment to thank everyone involved in the production of the show, “Thankful to our phenomenal cast, writers, directors, wardrobe, music dept, staff + crew. It takes a family!”

The announcement of the renewal comes early on as Season 5 is still airing. The season finale, will stream on Showtime September 2 and premiere on-air two days later.

The Chi is a timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.

The Season 5 cast includes Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James and Curtiss Cook. Kandi Burruss, La La Anthony, Jason Weaver, Steven Williams, Rolando Boyce, and Iman Shumpert guest star for season five, along with Nia Jervier, Carolyn Michelle Smith, L’lerrét Jazelle, and Antonyah Allen.

The Chi, filmed at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, is created and executive produced by Emmy winner Lena Waithe (Twenties, Boomerang) and executive produced by Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Common (Selma).
