Known for turning cooking into unpredictable chaos, The Bear’s Matty Matheson is bringing his high energy cooking show Just a Dash to Netflix.
Netflix has acquired the exclusive global streaming rights to Just a Dash, the cooking series hosted by chef, restaurateur and The Bear actor / producer / consultant, Matty Matheson. The show built its following on YouTube, where Matheson’s unfiltered style, emotional swings and improvised problem solving turned each episode into a pressure filled kitchen experiment rather than a traditional cooking lesson.
Just a Dash favors spontaneity over structure. Episodes regularly unravel as equipment fails, plans collapse and Matheson reacts in real time with frustration, humor and persistence. That on camera temperament has become central to the show’s appeal, reflecting the intensity and volatility of real restaurant kitchens rather than polished television cooking formats.
Long before his digital success and his work on The Bear, Matheson established himself as a respected chef in Toronto. He worked in established kitchens before becoming executive chef of Parts and Labour, a Parkdale restaurant that developed a devoted following. He later opened and operated multiple restaurants including Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club, Prime Seafood Palace, Ca Phe Rang and Rizzo’s House of Parm, maintaining an active presence as a working restaurateur alongside his media career.
Matheson has also built a strong following through his cookbooks, Matty Matheson: A Cookbook and Matty Matheson: Home Style Cookery, which combine accessible recipes with the same candid voice and personality seen in his on screen work. His books further cemented his reputation as a chef with both technical credibility and a distinct point of view.
Television audiences know Matheson through FX’s The Bear, where he portrays Neil Fak while also contributing behind the scenes. He joined the series as a culinary consultant to help shape its authentic portrayal of restaurant life and later expanded his role as a producer and executive producer. His involvement on both sides of the camera has been credited with grounding the series in real world kitchen experience.
All three seasons of Just a Dash, including a new third season, will debut globally on Netflix on January 20, 2026.
