Somebody Somewhere to end with Season 3; watch new trailer

Somebody Somewhere

The Peabody Award-winning and critically acclaimed HBO Original comedy series Somebody Somewhere will premiere its third and final season on Sunday, October 27, from 10:30 to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. The new season will also be available for streaming on Max.

The HBO series is filmed in suburban Chicago, primarily in Lockport and Warrenville, and in Manhattan, Kansas. The show’s creators, Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, chose Chicago because of the talent pool and the style of acting. They also filmed in Manhattan because they felt it was where the history and connection was. Some of the places in Manhattan that are featured in the show include Fort Riley, Aggieville, Downtown, and the college.

In its final season, Somebody Somewhere continues to follow Sam Miller, portrayed by Bridget Everett, who also writes and executive produces the show. Set in Kansas, Sam, while embodying the local spirit, struggles to conform to her hometown’s expectations.

Through personal challenges and the search for acceptance, Sam finds solace in singing and embarks on a journey to connect with a community of outsiders. The new season promises growth and resilience as Sam navigates these obstacles. Watch the trailer below:

Bridget Everett, along with co-creators and executive producers Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, and executive producer Carolyn Strauss, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to bring the series to life. “It has been the greatest dream to bring this world to life, and to do it with HBO,” Strauss said. “We extend our Kansas Prairie-sized love and thanks to Amy, the entire HBO family, and to the most talented and caring cast and crew. The heart of Somebody Somewhere is friendship, and we will always hold dear the friendships on the screen and those forged behind the camera.”

Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and Head of HBO & Max Comedy Series, remarked, “We are incredibly proud to have collaborated with Bridget, Hannah, and Paul on this remarkable exploration of the beauty of everyday life. Though it’s hard to say goodbye to these characters we hold dear, we’re grateful for this journey and the legacy Somebody Somewhere leaves behind.”

The second season won a Peabody Award and received a GLAAD Media Award nomination. Bridget Everett earned nominations for Best Actress in a Comedy Series from the Critics Choice Awards and for Individual Achievement in Comedy from the TCA Awards. Season one was honored by AFI as one of their Television Programs of the Year.

Critics have praised the series widely, with Rolling Stone calling season two “laugh out loud funny” and highlighting Everett’s “hypnotizing” performance. The Hollywood Reporter found the series “revelatory,” while Daily Beast described it as “TV’s sweetest slice of life” with “performances that will break your heart and heal it all over again.” Vulture noted its “authenticity,” and Them called it “quietly powerful.”

Season three is co-created and executive-produced by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, and features Bridget Everett as an executive producer. The season is also executive produced by Carolyn Strauss for Mighty Mint, Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass, and Mel Eslyn for Duplass Brothers Productions, and Tyler Romary, with Shuli Harel as producer.
