Saturn Return sets up at Cinespace; Charles Melton, Rachel Brosnahan star

Saturn Return

Netflix has picked up Saturn Return, a Chicago-set romance starring Charles Melton, Rachel Brosnahan, and Will Poulter. Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner are producing alongside Emily Wolfe.

Greg Kwedar will direct. The script is by Gaelyn Golde, with revisions by Kwedar and Clint Bentley, reuniting with Netflix after the streamer acquired their Sundance breakout Train Dreams. The film is based on Golde’s original screenplay.

The project is described as is described as, “… a timeless romance exploring the themes of love, loss, and life’s complicated turns in the ten years between the aspirational young love of college and the complicated realities of adulthood.”

For Melton and Netflix, the project also marks a reunion after he earned the best reviews of his career for the streamer’s May December. He most recently starred in A24’s ensemble war film Warfare and wrapped production on Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell for Neon. He’s also set for the upcoming season of Netflix’s Beef.

Brosnahan arrives from Superman, and recent turns in The Amateur and Presumed Innocent (Season 2). Poulter, who also appears in Warfare, reprised his role on Chicago’s own The Bear and starred in A24’s Death of a Unicorn. With its Chicago setting and local ties, Saturn Return is one to watch for the city’s film community.

Melton and Brosnahan are represented by CAA (111 Media also represents Melton; Brillstein Entertainment Partners also represents Brosnahan). WME and Hamilton Hodell rep Poulter.

Production is set to begin on October 6.
