Register now for the 48Hour Film Project, Aug. 14-16

Registration is now open for one of the best weekends of the summer for filmmakers at all levels of skill — the 13th annual 48 Hour Film Project Chicago, Aug. 14-16.

You have six weeks to assemble your team and get set to make a short film over those fast-paced three days.  There’s no prize money, but lots of bragging rights for the winners and a chance the film could showcase at the Cannes International Film Festival 2016.

48HFP executive director, director/editor Jerry Vasilatos of Nitestar Productions, calls the event “a lot of fun, a chance to meet like-minded talented people and stretch your talents to produce a complete short in 48 hours.”

Each team is assigned a genre, character, prop and line of dialog that they must work into their film.  They are responsible for gathering a cast and crew, equipment and whatever else is necessary to deliver their finished short.

And to start the action, the Early Bird registration is $140 per team through Monday, July 20; $160 thereafter. Seven teams already signed up, out of the 65 expected to join the fun.

Filmmaking teams will start producing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14 and deliver a finished 4-to-7 minute film by 7:30 p.m. Sunday, August 16th.

A panel of qualified industry pros will decide the winners and their work will screen for the public at the Logan Theatre, Aug. 18-20.

Winners will receive special prizes and will be eligible for top honors consideration at Filmapalooza, the 48Hour Film Project’s annual awards, and screen at a Chicago “Best of Festival” on August 27.

Nitestar Productions will hold a meet and greet for filmmakers, where they can also enter, at a date and venue to be announced shortly.

You can get a feel of the fun from race sponsor Magnanimous Media’s short video about the race here.

The first team registrants are Sarnal Tessitore, Brown Wolf Productions; Kevin Hricik, Kubrick Zirconia; Latesha Dickerson, Never Finished Filmworks; Mark Easton, Peregrinari Films; Renee Jackson, The Rainbow co-op for film; Spiro Siavelis, Ugly Sweater Entertainment and Michael Liacone, Visual Disturbance Productions.
