After shattering its own streaming records, The Chi is officially coming back for more. Paramount+ with Showtime announced today that the acclaimed drama has been renewed for Season 8, following a historic premiere for Season 7.
The premiere episode drew over 2 million cross-platform viewers, marking the most-streamed premiere in the show’s history and setting a new benchmark for the series.
Created and executive produced by Emmy winner Lena Waithe under her Hillman Grad banner, The Chi continues to be a flagship title for the platform. New episodes from Season 7 currently drop every Friday exclusively for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan.
Set on the South Side of Chicago and shot entirely in the city, The Chi is a powerful coming-of-age drama about community, connection, and survival. The series explores how the lives of a group of residents become interwoven by fate and driven by the pursuit of purpose and redemption.
Season 7 focuses on a pivotal shift in power as Alicia steps into a leadership role, challenging the women of The Chi to rise, reclaim control, and face the growing rivalries that threaten their unity. The fight for power proves costly—and only one crown can be claimed.
In addition to Waithe and Academy Award and Emmy winner Common, executive producers include Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronel (series co-showrunners), Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Resheida Brady-Anderson, Derek Dudley, Shelby Stone, Naomi Funabashi, and Rishi Rajani (CEO, Hillman Grad). Deondray Gossfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield, who directed multiple episodes this season, return as supervising producers.
Produced by 20th Television, The Chi continues to resonate with audiences for its authentic storytelling and powerful ensemble performances.
