Panasonic’s new S-3D camera hits town

Veteran producer Fred Blurton has seen the future of stereoscopic 3D and it is an exciting, lightweight, compact Panasonic camera that, he says “is going to open S-3D to the world.”

A few weeks ago Panasonic gave Blurton and only two other producers in the U.S. use of its AG-DA1 camera to test before it comes to market later this summer.

The AG-DA1 is touted as “the world’s first integrated twin lens, full HD 3D camera recorder.” Blurton estimates the camera’s cost will be in the $20,000 range.

“I gotta tell you, this camera is amazingly efficient, affordable and delivers a stunning picture,” Blurton enthuses.

“I’ve been shooting with just the camera and a tripod around town, testing for an upcoming music video, and the results have been extraordinary.”

After Blurton and graphic designer Justin Zion tried the camera out at NAB last April, “We realized had to get our hands on it,” he says. “Based on our experience in S-3D, the folks at Panasonic allowed us to evaluate one before its official release.”

Two years ago, the Fred Blurton Productions (FBP) team developed the 3D solution, “zspace 3D?,” which uses traditional equipment and applications to create an affordable S-3D solution “that allows clients to utilize 2D materials they have in their libraries,” Blurton says.
