MediaRecall creating online stock footage archive of Ch. 11’s 50-year content library

Ch. 11’s 50-year archive of public TV content should be available online by early next year, through a new agreement with media asset management firm MediaRecall.

MediaRecall is scanning, digitizing and indexing the broadcaster’s archives, and designing a dedicated web site that will provide free low-resolution downloads. The site is geared for the sale of stock footage ? users can review the low-res content, identify the precise footage they need and purchase it for use in a variety of high-resolution digital formats.

“The technology has finally turned the corner to create cost-effective web access to extensive video archives,” said MediaRecall chief executive officer Robin T. Rutledge. “The technology is now available to turn rooms full of under-utilized video into valuable stock footage.”

MediaRecall video archivists are converting Ch. 11’s analog video footage into low-res digital files. Customized software then analyzes the footage and breaks it down into individual scenes, categorized by content and topic, making it accessible based on users’ search criteria.

Ch. 11 will store the digital archive in-house. MediaRecall will update the digital archive as Ch.11 produces new programming, keeping the video archive current for users and purchasers at the web site.

Founded in 2003, MediaRecall analyzes clients’ video, photography and other media assets and customizes technological solutions to “unlock the value” of those assets.
