McDonald’s and RMHC receive $1m in donations

McDonald’s of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (MOCNI) and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI), McDonald’s charity of choice, have announced that they have officially raised $1 million in donations so far in 2023 through the Round-Up for RMHC program.

The historic millionth dollar donation was made at the Naperville McDonald’s located at 3232 S Rt. 59, where a special Thank You Celebration is scheduled for Thursday, September 14 from 1-3 p.m.

The celebration, hosted by RMHC-CNI CEO Holly Buckendahl and the Naperville McDonald’s team, aims to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of McDonald’s customers and crew members in achieving this remarkable milestone.

It underscores the profound impact of the Round-Up for RMHC initiative, a year-round program that benefits children and families within the community. The event will also feature refreshments and commemorative t-shirts for the Naperville McDonald’s crew, as well as the presence of local Ronald McDonald House families and Ambassadors.

“We are incredibly grateful to our community for coming together to already raise a record $1 million through the Round-Up for RMHC program so far this year,” says Holly Buckendahl, Chief Executive Officer, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana. “The simple act of choosing to Round-Up an order at McDonald’s and donating the extra change makes an incredible impact for families with hospitalized children, and enables them to stay close and get better together.”

On August 17, National Nonprofit Day, McDonald’s, in partnership with MOCNI and RMHC-CNI, launched the first-ever “Round-Up for RMHC Rally.” This initiative encouraged the community to rally for Round-Up at their local McDonald’s and beyond, extending their support to provide even more families with the comfort and care they depend on. McDonald’s customers can participate in Round-Up for RMHC at nearly 500 McDonald’s locations across the region, showcasing their backing for local communities.

In April 1977, the world’s second Ronald McDonald House was inaugurated in Chicago through collaboration with MOCNI franchisees, sparking the growth of the Ronald McDonald House Charities system. In 2022, MOCNI restaurants collected $800,000 through Round-Up for RMHC and donation boxes, with additional contributions from McDonald’s based on Happy Meal sales, all aimed at supporting RMHC-CNI programs and helping families heal together. This year, the community has rallied to surpass last year’s total, with the year-round Round-Up for RMHC program offering further opportunities for donations.

Through these ongoing efforts, McDonald’s customers across Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana contribute to keeping up to 177 families near the care and resources they require every night, through six local Ronald McDonald Houses and three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.
