Kids cooking show goes national

Combine the power of Facebook with the irresistible appeal of appearing on a national TV show and whaddaya get?

How about 1,200 kids from 36 states responding to the Facebook casting call at Macy’s State St. store last weekend, looking for budding young chefs to appear on “Jr. Cuisine,” a new Chicago TV series.

“We had talent agents and hotels calling us after the Facebook call went out,” says a somewhat shell-shocked D’Shaun Ragland, who created with his wife, Cherise, what appears to be the tweens “Twilight” of cooking shows.

In December, 2009 “Jr. Cuisine” was greenlighted by WYCC/Ch. 20 general manager Arthur Woods, two years after the Raglands made a positively-received presentation to the station.

Two more casting calls for 8 to 13-year boys and girls will be held at Macy’s on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15 and 21-22.
