Keepman Film Capital funding/production group launches with doc about who created the sundae

“Cold War,” the first documentary initiated by the fledgling Keepman Film Capital, goes into production in January.

“It’s about the absurd conflict between Ithaca, New York and Two Rivers, Wisc. about who created the ice cream sundae,” said executive producer Matt Keepman. He is financing the $250,000 movie through the sale of $25,000 shares in his company.

“We’re in business to provide financial resources to independent-minded pictures for under $10 million, usually under $5 million,” Keepman said. “I’d like to be like River Road Entertainment,” which provided financing for “Brokeback Mountain,” and “A Prairie Home Companion.”

He said he aims to complete “Cold War” in time for next year’s Sundance Film Festival submission deadline. He aims for a festival run followed by a theatrical release, a video deal and a broadcast sale to The Food Network or PBS.

“The characters in ?Cold War’ are hilarious,” he said. “Evanston is chiming in as the first city now too, so we’ll be focusing on that as well.” A director is still being sought for “Cold War.”

Keepman said that once Keepman Film Capital is fully operational, he plans to produce two or three films a year and co-produce four or five more.

“I like to look at Keepman Film Capital as an attractive alternative investment,” he said. “Hopefully we can display a track record and make commercially successful films that you’ll be happy to tell your friends about?animation and documentaries and family comedies and dramas.”
