IFP’s Nov. 4-6 Midwest Summit the best yet with 6 locally-made indies, top speakers, workshops

At last, after decades of feeling like orphans with noses pressed against the window of the indie movie world, Chicago filmmakers can now proudly proclaim to be part of that world and, moreover, to be leading it.

And if you need proof of this welcome phenomenon, take a look at the line-up of locally-made films that the IFP/Chicago lined up for the Nov. 4-6 Midwest Filmmakers Summit.

The conference will screen at least six Midwestern-made indies, headlined by Harold Ramis’ “The Ice Harvest,” shot in Chicago instead of Toronto, thanks to the Illinois wage tax credit that helped level the competitive playing field.

While the Summit has attracted an average of 400 avid guests over its 20 years of existence, this year’s event should magnetize another 200 from the region for record attendance.
