The Independent Film Alliance (IFA) Chicago, a non-profit dedicated to empowering a diverse and sustainable community of independent content creators, announces its annual Magic Hour Gala fundraiser. This much-anticipated event will take place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at CineCity Studios in Chicago.
IFA Magic Hour will honor the 21-time Emmy-winning series The Bear with its Creative Vision Award. Through its authentic portrayal of resilience, creativity, and grit, both on screen and behind the scenes, The Bear epitomizes Chicago’s indomitable spirit. This recognition also highlights the invaluable contributions of Chicago’s local crew members, artisans, and professionals who power the city’s dynamic film and television community. Accepting the award on behalf of the production are Emmy-winning Director of Photography Drew Wehde and Emmy-nominated Production Designer Merje Veski.
IFA will also present its Breakthrough Voice Award to Dewayne Perkins, the Emmy, NAACP Image, WGA, and GLAAD Award-nominated writer, comedian, and actor. A Chicago native, Perkins has earned national acclaim for his sharp comedic voice and groundbreaking work in television (The Amber Ruffin Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and film, including his recent starring role and co-writing credit in the hit feature The Blackening. This award recognizes individuals whose work demonstrates exceptional creative quality and storytelling integrity while making a significant impact on the national stage. Perkins’ achievements reflect IFA’s mission to elevate innovative voices that embody Chicago’s unique creative spirit.
Hosted by acclaimed actor and comedian Antoine McKay (Chicago Med, South Side, Empire, All Happy Families), this year’s gala celebrates the extraordinary achievements of Chicago’s creative talent.
“Magic Hour is a truly special evening where our film and TV community comes together to celebrate the transformative power of storytelling,” said Wesley Julian, Executive Director of IFA Chicago. “We are excited to honor The Bear, Dewayne Perkins, and the hardworking Chicago talent that drives our industry forward. Their contributions amplify the richness and impact of our local creators.”
Previous honorees include Governor JB Pritzker, Cinespace founder and former CEO Alex Pissios, and award-winning filmmakers Minhal Baig and McKenzie Chinn.
Magic Hour 2024 promises an unforgettable night with dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and unparalleled opportunities to connect with industry professionals. Proceeds from the event support IFA Chicago’s mission to foster a thriving local filmmaking industry.
