While big studios routinely sell their clips to stock footage houses, the deal between Getty Images and Grooters Productions of Holland, Michigan is considered to be the largest sale of images from a regional production company.
More than 10,000 HD clips shot by Jon Grooters are now exclusively available for licensing through Getty’s royalty-free Photodisc collection.
For the past four years, Grooters has been shooting scenics and people in studios and natural settings, in micros and macros, slow motion and time lapse for Grooters own library of 14,000 clips, averaging in length from 12 to 15-seconds.
Using a Panasonic Varicam, Grooters said, “We’ve shot all over the world?in China, Turkey, England, Switzerland, France, Israel, Canada and Mexico, and from New York to Yosemite, Boston to San Diego, summer and winter, deserts and forests.
