It may be short notice, but IFP/Chicago expects a full house when it holds “A Conversation with Robert Townsend” Monday, March 19 at Columbia College.
Townsend is shooting his film, “Of Boys and Men” in Chicago until March 26. He is executive producer and also has a starring role, along with Angela Bassett.
The “conversation” was arranged by IFP board president, Carrie Holt deLama, who is the movie’s UPM. DGA is sponsoring the evening. A moderator has not as yet been named.
Chicago native Townsend is president and CEO of productions for the recently formed Black Family Channel. For the Channel he has produced “The Thousand Dollar Bee,” “Lisa Knight and the Round Table” and “The Black College Talent Hour.”
From his beginnings with Chicago’s Experimental Black Actors Guild X-Bag Theatre, Townsend rose to national attention in 1987 with the critically acclaimed “Hollywood Shuffle,” in which he starred, co-wrote and directed.
Townsend also wrote and directed “The Meteor Man” and “The Five Heartbeats,” among other numerous other credits.
