Did C-K fire the client, or did Panera cut them off?

CRAMER-KRASSELT CHAIRMAN /CEO Peter Krivkovich candid internal memo Wednesday telling the staff why the agency fired two-year old client Panera Bread. He said whatever they did, how hard they worked, the results they gained, the client found fault with, not to mention politics getting in the way.

In the end, “no amount of money makes it worthwhile,” Krivkovich concluded.

No sooner had emails, tweets and texts sailed into cyberspace about an agency firing the client, Panera Bread responded to the memo that turned up in Advertising Age.

Not so, said Panera chief marketing officer Michael Simon. In short, the agency wasn’t delivering the goods.  “They’d been producing some new work but while the ads were good, they weren’t breakthrough enough.”

Cramer-Krasselt didn’t offer further comment.

Panera said it told C-K it was going to open the account for review and has since reached out to about eight agencies.
