hybrid film

showcase returns
with five local filmmakers
and never-before-seen work
(Chicago, IL) For a unique night celebrating film and performance art, Destroy Your Art returns Friday, August 10th.
Following the sold-out success of last year’s inaugural event, five Chicago-based filmmakers will again screen and immediately destroy new short films, challenging contemporary attitudes toward artistic liberation and the impermanence of one’s work.
Hosted this year at Silent Funny, an arts space and community hub in Humboldt Park, the event is the creation of Rebecca Fons and Jack C. Newell (42 Grams, Open Tables).
This year’s form of destruction promises to be just as brutally effective, both entertaining and fascinating to witness. More information on event location and tickets (available online and at the door) is on the website.
Boasting a brand-new roster of participating filmmakers, Destroy Your Art again invites a group diverse and emerging artists from across the city to create a film running five minutes or less; no other parameters have been imposed.
The absence of guidelines offers an opportunity for filmmakers to make bold creative choices.
This year’s filmmakers are:
Lydia Fu is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist; her short animated film Permute screened at Millennium Park’s Summer Film Series.
Vincent Singleton has directed numerous short films and documentaries; he operates Film Collective Productions, creating a variety of corporate, narrative, documentary, and commercial projects.
Deja Harrell is the creator and star of Seeds, a web series that follows the misadventures of four young black women and winner of the “Best Emerging Female Creator” award at Series Fest.
Jacquelyn Jamjoom is a Chicago-based filmmaker and Co-Founder of newly launched PROTEÁ, a female owned film production and management company delivering innovation, sustainability, and class to independent film.
Andrew Stasiulis is an actor, writer, producer, and director. His first feature film, Orders, is an absurdist odyssey exploring the psychological and spiritual traumas of war.

Destroy Your Art, created by filmmaker Jack C. Newell and creative entrepreneur Rebecca Fons, is a one-night-only event born out of a desire to explore the permanence of film as well as the impermanence of the audience experience. The event challenges our current obsession with moments and invites an audience to witness something more intentional in a singularly unrepeatable event. By giving artists permission to take risks that they might not otherwise take, Destroy Your Art asks: what story will you tell when you know it will disappear?
