Deli Boys, is set to premiere on Hulu on Thursday, March 6, introducing viewers to a unique blend of humor and crime drama.
The Chicago-made comedy series centers around two pampered Pakistani-American brothers, Mir and Raj Dar, portrayed by Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh, respectively. Their lives take an unexpected turn following the sudden death of their father, Baba (Iqbal Theba), a convenience store magnate. This event unveils his secret life as a crime boss, thrusting the brothers into the underworld he left behind.
The series delves into the comedic turmoil faced by Mir and Raj as they navigate their father’s criminal enterprise. Mir, characterized as hardworking and eager to impress, contrasts with his brother Raj, a laid-back individual content with living off the family’s wealth. This dynamic sets the stage for a series filled with cultural specificity and universal humor.
Early reviews suggest that Deli Boys offers a chaotic yet charming experience.
Collider praises the show as a fast, irreverent, and deeply funny series, highlighting its frenetic fish-out-of-water spiral that elicits laughter throughout.
The AV Club notes that while the series struggles with suspense, particularly regarding an FBI subplot, its chaotic nature adds to its appeal.
Additionally, Rotten Tomatoes rates the series an impressive 9 out of 10, describing it as a strong, bold cup of chai that leaves viewers wanting more.
The supporting cast includes Poorna Jagannathan as Lucky, Baba’s closest confidante, and Brian George as Ahmad, a striver seeking the top spot at DarCo. The ensemble cast, led by Ali and Shaikh, seamlessly integrates into this layered world, bringing palpable excitement to their roles.
Deli Boys is created by Abdullah Saeed and developed in collaboration with executive producers Jenni Konner and Nora Silver. The 10-episode series will be available for streaming exclusively on Hulu starting March 6, 2025.
