in ‘On The Board’
DDB created a flurry of humorous scenes to help State Farm generate laughs and spread kindness through On The Board, a new commercial highlighting the power of collective good.
Tracking a pair of zealous co-workers who compete in a “100 Acts of Good” office competition, the spot is based on a similar real-life challenge that State Farm issued to employees and agents.
The State Farm competition was created in honor of the company’s upcoming 100th anniversary in 2022.
The commercial spoofs the contest in a series of good-deed quick-cuts set to a tune that sounds like Dick Dale’s cover of “Misirlou” in Pulp Fiction. Every time one of the competitors does a good deed, he tracks it on a “100 Acts of Good” website. The ensuing action includes Heimlich maneuvering, crosswalk assisting, and whale saving.

DDB Chicago, working together with director Ian Pons Jewell, led the creative for On The Board. According to a press release, the Chicago shop’s treatment “brings the story to life through acts inspired by real deeds performed by State Farm associates and agents.”
The spot’s 15-, 30-, and 60-second versions are scheduled to begin airing today.
