NBC 5 Chicago (WMAQ-TV) has announced former Chicago Bears head coach/renowned NFL analyst Dave Wannstedt will be joining the station’s signature sports program, Sports Sunday, as its lead Bears/NFL analyst beginning Sunday, September 8 (11:00 p.m. time approx., immediately following the season premiere of Sunday Night Football & NBC 5 News at 10pm).
Every Sunday evening throughout the 2024 NFL season, Wannstedt will join NBC 5 Chicago’s sports team – featuring Leila Rahimi, Ruthie Polinsky and Mike Berman – to break down the X’s and O’s from every Bears game, providing in-depth details on what worked (and didn’t work), along with expert advice on what adjustments the Bears need to make in advance of their next game.

During the week, Wannstedt will also make special appearances on NBC 5 News TODAY at 6am with a complete preview of all upcoming Bears games on Friday mornings, along with detailed game recaps on Monday mornings.
Wannstedt, one of the most respected analysts in professional/collegiate sports, enjoyed an illustrious 38-plus year pro/college coaching career, which included six seasons as head coach of the Chicago Bears (1993-98), earning himself 1994 NFC Coach of the Year honors by UPI and “Football News.” Prior to joining the Bears, Wannstedt was the defensive mastermind of the Dallas Cowboys (1989-92), who, alongside head coach Jimmy Johnson, guided the ’92 Cowboys to a 13-3 regular season record and a Super Bowl XXVII title.
