Reid Brody, founder of the remote color grading service ColorNation, has announced the addition of veteran artists Matthew Rosenblum and Cory Berendzen to his roster.
Now independent, both artists bring a wealth of experience to the ColorNation roster, with long associations at leading post production studios and extensive showreels. Rosenblum spent over a decade at Nice Shoes in New York, while Berendzen was on staff at TBD Post in Austin, Texas.
“Adding Matthew and Cory to our ColorNation talent roster is a great move for our clients, and will bring their work to a wider range of agencies and brands,” says Brody. “They’re two supremely talented artists who’ve spent countless hours working closely with agency producers and creative teams, so they know the drill, and of course their work speaks for itself. We’re excited about getting their reels in front of new prospects.”
Matthew Rosenblum has over two decades’ experience as a colorist in New York. During this time he’s worked with just about every major agency in the city (along networks like Paramount, VH1, MTV and Comedy Central), as well as with many clients outside New York. His reel includes color grading on spots that span a range of categories and styles, featuring such brands as Louis Vuitton, LG, Invisalign, Peloton, Flonase, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Tumi Esports.
As one of the earliest full-time independent colorists in the New York market, Rosenblum was an early advocate of remote work and has seen it through its various transitions to its current state today. As such, the ColorNation model appealed to him, as did having someone like Reid Brody in his corner, pitching his work. “I think it’s always great to have someone looking at your work in a different light, someone who has a further reach than you can achieve on your own, particularly in other markets,” he says. “Having Reid on my team is going to be a boost to building my client base.”
Rosenblum’s career history is intertwined with that of his twin brother, Bryan. Best friends growing up in the New York City suburbs, they shared an interest in photography, and went off to study at George Washington University in D.C. After a brief stint PA’ing on indie features, they both landed at Nice Shoes, the venerable New York-based post house, and landed in their training program. Bryan was attracted to the VFX and finishing side of the business, and now works as an independent Flame Artist and VFX Supervisor, while Matthew was drawn to the color suite. “Once I got in there,” he recalls, “I loved everything about it.”
In addition to frequently collaborating on commercial projects, both before and after leaving Nice Shoes, the pair are also photographers, and their work can be seen on the Identical Exposure page on Matthew’s website. They’ve licensed their images to Art.com, Walmart, and others, as well as print on demand e-stores that sell a wide range of products with designs that they create.
MATTHEW ROSEBLUM’S WORK
Cory Berendzen, an Austin native, started his career in Los Angeles, where he quickly found his way into post production. Starting at 525 Studios in Santa Monica, he worked his way up through the ranks.
Berendzen went on to assist at a number of top L.A. post houses, broadened his understanding of the creative process at places like EFilm and Encore Hollywood to The Syndicate, The Mill and many others. He returned to Austin in 2014 and landed at TBD, where he worked on campaigns for a number of national agencies and clients as well as long form episodic television, feature films and music videos. He’s provided grading for such brands as Pepsi and Dell, as well as shows appearing on HBO, Netflix and Discovery.
For Berendzen, who is currently based in Central America, his time at 525 Post is what showed him that his future lay in the color suite. “It’s where I was first exposed to 2D compositing, 3D animation, editing and color correction,” he recalls. “And they were always working on big commercial projects, all very high end work. The only thing that clicked for me was color.”
He first met Reid Brody while at TBD Post, when Brody brought color sessions to the studio. Their connection grew from there, and when he went independent, the prospect of joining the ColorNation roster naturally came up. For him, the move was a no-brainer.
“Reid is such a positive and proactive person, as well as both fun to work with and talk to. As a client, he gave precise feedback quickly, which enabled us to complete jobs efficiently but with great outcomes. His deep level of experience gives me confidence to have him represent me. My hope is that my work will reach new corners of the world via Reid, and I’m looking forward to many new and different projects and meeting new people along that way.”
CORY BERENDZEN’S REEL
