NBC’s Chicago P.D. returns on Wednesday, October 1, beginning Season 13 as part of the One Chicago lineup. The series continues to follow the Intelligence Unit, led by Hank Voight, as they navigate cases that test the limits of justice and loyalty inside the CPD.
Where We Left Off
The Season 12 finale ended with high tension and big shifts for the unit. Deputy Chief Charlie Reid, whose corruption had cast a shadow over Intelligence, was assassinated in a shocking turn. The fallout made clear that Voight had orchestrated events behind the scenes, ensuring Reid’s downfall but raising new questions about Voight’s choices and how far he’ll go to protect his team.
Burgess and Ruzek, after years of ups and downs, finally tied the knot, giving fans a long-awaited payoff to their relationship. At the same time, Torres returned to the unit after a turbulent stretch, still carrying the weight of his past actions. And while Intelligence was reinstated, Chapman’s discovery of Voight’s role in Reid’s death left their partnership strained heading into the new season.
Changes Ahead
This season, fans will see some shifts in the cast. Toya Turner, who joined last year as Kiana Cook, will not return as a regular. Jack Damon (Michael Bradway) is also exiting the series. On the other side, Chicago P.D. welcomes Arienne Mandi as Officer Eva Imani, a new addition to the unit. A former soldier and contractor, Imani enters with experience in high-risk situations and a past that isn’t fully in the open — qualities that are bound to influence her place inside the team.
The core cast remains intact, with Jason Beghe, Marina Squerciati, Patrick John Flueger, LaRoyce Hawkins, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, and Amy Morton all returning.
What’s Next
Season 13 picks up in the aftermath of Reid’s death and Voight’s questionable methods. The unit is back on the street, but trust within CPD and even inside Intelligence is fragile. Burgess and Ruzek will adjust to life as newlyweds under the constant pressures of the job, Torres works to regain his footing, and Officer Eva Imani arrives with a skill set and perspective that could either strengthen the team — or test it further.
