Dominic Rains, known to NBC audiences as Dr. Crockett Marcel on Chicago Med, has officially joined the cast of Starz’s upcoming series Power: Origins.
Rains has been cast in a recurring role as Detective Fred Drexel, a law enforcement figure whose investigation will intersect with the criminal world at the center of the new prequel. The role marks Rains’ latest move into high profile serialized drama following his multi season run on the One Chicago franchise.
Power: Origins is the newest chapter in Starz’s long running Power universe and will explore the early rise of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan, tracing the beginnings of their partnership and the forces that shaped their path. The characters will be played by Spence Moore II and Charlie Mann.
The first season is currently in production, with filming underway in the New York and New Jersey area. The cast also includes several newly announced recurring additions, continuing Starz’s expansion of one of its most successful drama franchises.
For Chicago Med fans, Rains’ casting offers a notable next step for an actor who became a familiar presence on the medical drama as the confident and complex trauma surgeon Dr. Marcel. His transition into the gritty world of Power signals a new direction and another major television role for a performer with growing franchise credentials.
Power: Origins does not yet have a premiere date, but anticipation is building as production continues and the cast lineup takes shape.
