Chicago Filmmaker Alex Phillips’ erotic thriller ANYTHING THAT MOVES screens Saturday October 25 as part of the Chicago International Film Festival after premiering in July at Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal. The film also screened to sold out audiences at Lisbon’s Motel X, Sitges Film Festival, Lausanne Underground Music & Film Festival, Baltimore’s New/Next Film Fest, and Brooklyn Horror Fest, among others.
Phillips’ steamy sophomore entry follows Liam (Chicagoan Hal Baum), a young bicycle courier who serves snacks and orgasms to his love-hungry clients. Liam’s joyful existence is soon interrupted by the arrival of a serial killer, which throws his life into the realm of paranoia and conspiracy, casting a dark shadow over the city of Chicago.
Shot in stunning Super 16mm, ANYTHING THAT MOVES leans heavily on a talented Chicago-based ensemble cast. Jack Dunphy (ASSHOLES) teams up with Frank V. Ross (THE BECOMERS) as Dodge and Rick, colorfully profane and dirty Chicago cops assigned to the murder investigation. Newcomer Jiana Nicole depicts Thea, Liam’s lover and business partner. ANYTHING THAT MOVES also features adult film stars Ginger Lynn Allen (THE DEVIL’S REJECTS) and Nina Hartley (BOOGIE NIGHTS). The original score was produced by Chicago’s Cue Shop.
Reel Suspects has boarded ANYTHING THAT MOVES for international sales; a U.S. theatrical run is in the works.
Alex Phillips’ debut feature ALL JACKED UP AND FULL OF WORMS (2022) gained the Special Jury Mention at its Fantasia debut. It garnered an Honorable Mention on Variety’s list of worst movies of 2022 and is holding a spot on Movie Maker Magazine’s list of 13 Strangest Movies Ever Seen. It was picked up for U.S. distribution by Cineverse and Reel Suspects internationally following a US theatrical run. It is available on TUBI and at TerrorVision on Blu-ray.
The two Chicago International screen dates: Sat Oct 25 at 10pm and Sun Oct 26 at 8pm at the AMC NEWCITY 14.
