NBC’s Chicago Fire is set to part ways with two key cast members—Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett—in what is said to be part of a broader round of cost-cutting measures across the network’s popular One Chicago franchise. The news, first reported by Deadline, signals a notable shift for the long-running firefighter drama, which has been on the air since 2012 and remains a primetime staple.
Daniel Kyri, a Chicago native, has portrayed firefighter Darren Ritter since 2018. Introduced in Season 7, Ritter quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his steady presence, team loyalty, and heart-forward approach to the job. His character has served as one of the more emotionally grounded figures at Firehouse 51, and Kyri’s authentic connection to the city has resonated deeply with viewers, particularly local fans proud to see one of their own represented on screen.
Kyri confirmed his departure on Instagram, stating: “I’ll miss this character, and it’s time to move on… Thank you to the cast, crew, & the awesome fans.”
Jake Lockett joined the cast in Season 11 as firefighter Sam Carver, a character known for his boldness and rough-around-the-edges persona. Carver’s journey has been marked by personal struggles and professional challenges, including a trouble relationship with his father and complicated relationship with his brother Nathan, who once pushed him into a fire during their childhood. In Season 12, Carver took a furlough after an altercation with an abusive father triggered memories of his own traumatic past. He later confessed his feelings to Violet Mikami and sought time away from Firehouse 51 to sort out his issues.
The departures of Kyri and Lockett are part of NBC’s cost-cutting measures for the One Chicago franchise, which includes Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. Deadline reports that these budgetary constraints may include cast adjustments on all three shows, as the network aims to manage production costs while maintaining the shows’ quality and appeal.
As Chicago Fire wraps the filming of its 13th season this week, fans will be watching closely to see how the series navigates these changes and what the future holds for Firehouse 51.
