(Chicago — 29 July 2018) The Chicago Acting In Film Meetup NFP (CAFM) will celebrate eleven years as a group with their annual summer fundraiser and networking event this August.

The 2018 CAFM Summer Social happens Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Whiskey Business (1367 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60622), and is open to the general public and the entire Chicago film production community.

Admission is $20 at the door (cash only), and a portion of the funds raised will benefit the Peace On Earth Film Festival. More details can be found here.

“We are happy to celebrate summer in Chicago,” says CAFM Board President Steve Scholz. “And we are inviting all film industry professionals and actors to join us at our rooftop party. With all the TV, film, and commercial work going on, we hope our Sunday night event will be a nice break where people can relax, have a drink, network, and maybe win a prize or two.”

Since 2007, CAFM has helped Chicago’s film actors co-mentor each other and connect with the film production community at large. The nonprofit group has hosted more than 120 members-only monthly educational meetups, offered public and industry events including Holiday Hurrahs, CIMMFest panels, and the Actors Clothing Swap, and hosted “Happy Hours” with the Chicago Creatives Cocktail Party (CCCP).

They also helped organize the first Chicago Film + Media Summit, and have helped local charities including Community TV Network (CTVN), Care for Real, Hephzibah Children’s Association, and the Food For Friends program at Church of Our Saviour in Lincoln Park.

Peace On Earth Film Festival
CAFM’s chosen charity for the 2018 Summer Social is the Peace On Earth Film Festival (POEFF). The selection was a unanimous decision made by CAFM Fundraising Committee Co-Chairs Laurel Kaish, Gina Phillips, and Joette Waters.

Besides offering a great selection of movies, Waters says that the POEFF was chosen “because they use the power of filmmaking and the talents of actors and directors to raise awareness about world peace and social justice.”

POEFF celebrates and encourages the work of independent filmmakers from around the globe on the themes of peace, nonviolence, social justice and an eco-balanced world. And in 2014, POEFF screened The Other One, a feature film produced by and starring CAFM founder Grace McPhillips.

Attendees at the Summer Social can enter a special drawing to win a Festival Pass to the 2019 Peace On Earth Film Festival along with a festival t-shirt. The event also has a cash bar all evening with Whiskey Business’s food menu items available for purchase. Proceeds from the night also help fund CAFM’s ongoing educational work, special industry events, and giving back outreach.

Must be 21 or older to attend. For more details, visit the Facebook event.
