Award-winning First to Stand comes to Chicago with special guest appearance

The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center announces a special screening of First to Stand, the international-award-winning documentary that shines a light on the life and work of Irwin Cotler—former Canadian Minister of Justice, Nobel Prize nominee, and tireless human rights advocate.

First to Stand tells the compelling story of Cotler’s decades-long fight to defend political prisoners and uphold democratic values across the globe. From his early defense of Natan Sharansky and Nelson Mandela to his present-day support of Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad, the film captures Cotler’s unwavering commitment to justice and freedom.

“We spend a lot of time dealing with the villains of the world, but hardly anytime celebrating the heroes. Irwin Cotler is one of the greatest heroes of our time.” —Bill Browder, Head, Global Magnitsky Justice
