Avenue scores points for completing a big spot package for Big Ten Network launch in record time

Football fanatics must be ecstatic with the launch August 30 of the Big Ten Network that delivers a wall-to-wall supply of exclusive Big Ten football and basketball games.

As Network president Mark Silverman said, “Fans will look back years from now and wonder how they ever followed their team without the Big Ten Network.”

A monstrous 39 football games this fall and 140 men’s basketball games will be televised?the biggest of any network?and more HD events than any other new network in television history.

To herald the Network’s arrival, local agency Tom, Dick and Harry and the Avenue editing team had a breathtaking turnaround period of ten days in which to craft a package of 12 spots, plus one version for each spot.

Chelsea Pictures’ Chris Wilcha directed and shot HDcam in and around Chicago in HD in keeping with the HD Network. Eleven of the spots are on Big Ten Conference schools and the twelfth is a branding spot.

“We started editing June 25 and completed the package on July 6, and that was followed by all sorts of variations until airtime,” said lead editor Liz Tate.

Graham Metzger also edited and they worked on common footage shared off the Avid Unity. Yvette Chicas and Jeremy Sloan assisted. Mary Caddy produced.

Colorist Heather Hay and Smoke artist Mark Anderson assembled the HD visuals, with effects added to specific spots by Paul Rosckes.

Avenue audio engineers Cory Coken and Paul Rodgers designed and mixed the spots in 5.1 SurroundSound.

Mary Caddy produced the package and Tom, Dick and Harry’s creative director/writer was in charge of the package, David Yang was the art director and Pat Douglass produced for the agency.
