Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) will return to the team for the suspenseful Chicago Fire finale, but what about Severide (Taylor Kinney)?
This will be Spencer’s second guest appearance of Season 11 and undoubtably Casey’s reappearance has an emotional impact on his ex, Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) who was just beginning to adjust to life without him.
The possibility of Casey returning permanently was brought up when Spencer spoke to NBC Insider last month.
“The idea when I left the show was that if it was appropriate and it would work with the storyline they wanted to do, I would be open — and they would be open — to bringing Casey back,” Spencer said. “The storyline does allude to Casey sort of eyeing whether he could actually move back to 51. Can he potentially, in the future, rekindle his relationship with Brett and start that fire again? We’re ‘gonna have to see. Casey’s looking at it; it’s a potential thing, but we just don’t know right now. We’ll leave that to the future. We’ll throw it to the gods and see what they say.”
Judging by the synopsis that NBC has released for the finale, it appears that something big may be happening between them.
SYNOPSIS OF FINALE:
Brett waits for life-changing news; Herrmann encounters a psychic with a grave warning on a call; Kidd finds a new lead on the Homeland Security case.
Although everyone is hoping to see the return of Severide (Taylor Kinney) this season, and Kinney was reported to be seen in Chicago recently, there is no indication that he will be appearing in the finale.
Kinney abruptly left the series in January, taking a hiatus “to deal with a personal matter.” His sudden absence was explained in the episode titled Damage Control, in which his character Severide was said to be attending a special arson investigation training program in Alabama.
Of course, Chicago Fire is known for surprises so I will be watching until the last minute in hopes of seeing Severide show up in the final scene, in the same way that Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) made a surprise reappearance after her long absence.
Historically, Chicago Fire has completed their seasons with a cliffhanger finale and we expect nothing less for the completion of Season 11. Our Station 51 team has been seen around town all week filming explosions and major car crashes so be prepared for an hour of nail-biting adventure and you can be certain to be left hanging in gripping suspense at the end.
Chicago Fire‘s Season 11 finale airs on Wednesday, May 24, at 8 PM CST on NBC.
