Will there be a One Chicago crossover event this season?

One Chicago is known to have one night each season when Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. all come together in a three hour epic crossover event, sharing one storyline, with key characters ‘crossing over’ into all three shows.

However, the past two years have been difficult on all of us as we navigate through a global pandemic. The One Chicago 2020 season was shortened, and in the interest of keeping cast and crews in a sanitized and restricted environment, there was no possible way to film a crossover event last season.

Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Hass explained,  “I feel bad, because we had one planned, and we had it all talked out with the showrunners of the other two shows, and we know what we’re going to do, and it’s enormous… but the Delta variant kind of forced our hand.”

Now that we’re deep into season 10 of Chicago Fire, season 7 of Chicago Med, and season 9 of Chicago P.D., with NEW episodes coming next week after the Olympics conclude, we want to know if we will see a major crossover event!

Everyone had high hopes at the start up of this season, and details for a crossover were being worked out by the three showrunners. It requires a lot of logistics to pull off the merging of three casts and crews.

As the season progressed, with the onset of Omicron, it became less likely. Both Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. had to suspend filming for about a week after a number of positive Covid tests were reported.

It appears to be another season where it will not be possible to pull off a major crossover event.

There is a bright side to this.

Chicago Med executive producers Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider talked to TV Insider about the possibilities. Frolov shared, “At this point, we don’t have a major crossover planned but we do have minor ones.”

Schneider added, “So, you’ll see the Fire and P.D. people on our show and vice versa.”

When will we see these mini-crossovers?

It seems likely that we will see a mini-crossover in the mid-season premiere on February 23rd. We’ve been told this is a night not to be missed.

We will have more on that next week. Meanwhile, for nostalgia’s sake, here is the trailer from the last crossover event on October 2019.
