When he heard that L.A.-based SuperFad design studio had closed, Cutters Studios’ CEO Tim McGuire wasted no time in hiring SuperFad’s two highly regarded design specialists for Cutters’ newly revised design division.
“So many of our clients had worked with Brad at Stardust LA and couldn’t say enough superlatives about him. Darren received the same high praise at SuperFad, where he was known as a resourceful executive producer,” McGuire said.
Jaffe had been SuperFad’s pitch-to-delivery EP for two years and award-winning ECD Tucker was there just enough to find the parking lot when the company dissolved last March. The duo previously had worked together for many years at A Brand New School.
They settled into Flavor’s Santa Monica studio two weeks ago.
“We are upping the game, with the great new talent and what they can offer our clients,” McGuire said. “Darren and Brad felt that what Flavor has to offer, collectively as part of Cutters studios, was much stronger than any design company alone could offer.”
Jaffe agreed. “Since the infrastructure and all of the amazing Cutters Studios resources — production, editorial, sound – are in one place, we can focus on great design, with the capacity for greater growth.”
Tucker and Jaffe will work closely with all of Cutters Studios locations – Chicago, L.A. Detroit, Tokyo and a first-time New York office when it opens.
New Flavor branding was the result of a lot of brainstorming, McGuire noted. “It’s an easy, simple name with a lot of favorable connotations,” and fits comfortably alongside the company’s single-word named Dictionary production division and Picnic digital division.
The company plans on hiring a new national sales rep shortly.
