Starting this Saturday, May 25, with a special Summer Calendar Release Party, the Music Box theatre will hold around 80 summer presentations of a variety of great films in the next 12 weeks through the end of August, according to PR director Buck LePard.
Summer events begin with a very special screening of a 90th anniversary restoration of a 1923 Harold Lloyd classic silent film, “Safety Last,” The romantic comedy contains some of the most famous images of the silent film era, of Lloyd clutching the hands of a large clock as he dangles from the outside of a skyscraper above moving traffic.
(Movie triva: Lloyd continued to perform his own stunts even after losing two fingers in an earlier accident.)
The presentation won’t be all that silent, however, as the movie will have live music accompaniment on the Music Box organ, and live vaudeville entertainment with the West End Jazz Band.
The evening is presented by the Music Box Theatre and Newcity Magazine, 7:30-9 p.m. 3733 N. Southport. Tickets, $12.
