Local Area Network, a new independent feature from Chicago filmmaker Glenn Garrabrant (Visiting Friends), will make its world premiere at The Lake Street Screening Room on Saturday, December 13 at 7:00 PM, followed by an audience Q&A with Garrabrant and cast.
Shot entirely in Chicago and the surrounding region, Local Area Network is inspired by true stories and created with the mission of increasing awareness and conversation around suicide prevention.
“This film tries to approach the subject of suicide with both harsh realism and delicate caution,” says Writer/Director Glenn Garrabrant. “It doesn’t shy away from darkness, but it also honors the joy, humor, and friendship that keep us going.”
Local Area Network blends emotional drama with touches of comedy and warm nostalgia. Brimming with nerd culture and familiar millennial memories, the film follows a group of friends as they navigate despair, self-doubt, and the question of what it really means to show up for one another.
LAN encourages reflection about being truly alive and reminds audiences of the power of human connection in a digital world.
“My hope is that the film not only sparks suicide prevention awareness, but also inspires people to reconnect with friends, passions, or pastimes that may have fallen away,” adds Garrabrant. “More than ever, reconnection outside of our screens feels vital.”
After its debut screening, Local Area Network will continue with select theatrical and film festival engagements before premiering on streaming platforms on June 1, 2026.
Tickets for the December 13 world premiere are now available at Eventbrite.
The ensemble cast includes Jeff A. Smith (Chicago PD), Michael Farca (Visiting Friends), Charlie Bain (The Devils Whiskey), Gary Smiley (Chicago Fire), Olivia Hyzy (Chicago Med), Katherine Bellantone, Nickie Kruszynski, Ilsa K. Morales, Jessica Villarreal, Sean Escamilla Zielinski, and Lauren Miller.
