Optimus’ Craig Lewandowski makes the cut

THE AICE CHICAGO’S BEST AWARD went to Optimus’ Craig Lewandowski for a spot for Cricket Wireless from Element 79, at the gala national AICE Awards Show held Thursday night at the Field Museum. The show was the 9th annual competition honoring creative excellence in editorial, design and visual effects.

Alas, Lewandowski was the sole Chicago winner among the 23 awardees, although the work of six local editors made it into the finals.

Sandro Miller channels David Lynch with John Malkovich

In director Sandro Miller’s 17-minute short, Psychogenetic Fugue, actor John Malkovich portrays a selection of characters from David Lynch films, reenacting the scenes that made them famous.

For viewers, it’s a spine-tingling journey through the mind of a genius, a surreal exhibition of audiovisual madness, and a trippy tour of historic cinema. For Miller, it’s the latest work in a collaboration with the actor that has spanned two decades.

“We did ourselves proud last night,” says Tom Duff, AICE Chicago chapter president, “not only in award-winning but in putting on a great show” – the 15th annual AICE Awards at Navy Pier with an audience of 500.

Chicago had had three top winners out of the Awards’ 33 categories.

Best of Chicago was awarded to Beast’s Angelo Valencia for DigitasLBi spot for Whirlpool.

The Colonie won twice: Brian Sepanik for GrubHub / Tandem, Inc., in the Dialog / Monolog / spoken Word category and Keith Kristinat for 71 Degrees North / Chevy Trucks in the Spec Spot category.
