Chi Filmmakers aim for $50K in Indiegogo campaign

Chicago Filmmakers is gearing up for its first crowdfunding campaign to raise $50,000 to obtain a matching grant that will go towards renovating its recently purchased historic Edgewater firehouse that will become a center for diversity and literacy in media arts.

Videos are in the process of being edited for the upcoming Indiegogo campaign, says Brenda Webb, Chicago Filmmakers’ executive director. The crowdfunding campaign’s goal is to raise $50,000 to obtain a challenge grant that will match all individual contributions dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000.

Chicago Filmmakers’ Patrick Friel programs offbeat shows and large international festivals

WHO HE IS: Patrick Friel, since 1996 the program director of 34-year old Chicago Filmmakers.

WHAT HE DOES: He coordinates nine programs a year with his only co-worker, executive director and Chicago Filmmakers’ founder Brenda Webb.

Having just ended the 19th Annual Onion City Experimental Film Festival, he’s sending out a call for entries for the Nov. 8-18 27th annual Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival.

Margulies’ visit canceled; film event-packed weekend

ACTRESS JULIANNA MARGULIES IS ILL – she has chicken pox – and her scheduled appearance Sunday, May 15 at Anderson’s Bookstore in Naperville has been canceled. “The Good Wife” star has been on tour promoting her children’s book, “Three Magic Balloons,” and her visit here will be rescheduled for another time.

Lottery/DP spot wins major lottery industry award

The Illinois Lottery and agency Downtown Partners/Chicago won what is the biggest and most prestigious award in the North America lottery business: the annual Fleurry Award for the Lottery commercial “Shopping.”  

Presented by La Fleur Magazine, a worldwide lottery trade publication, “Shopping” was voted the best TV spot by lottery executives working in the industry, reports Lewis Lazare in Chicago BizJournals.
