AT band “Hard to Swallow” wins 2017 Battle for Hope

Fierce vocals, tight chops and explosive energy helped the AbelsonTaylor band Hard To Swallow win the 5th annual Battle for Hope competition at the Cubby Bear on Thursday night.

The Battle for Hope is a live music competition between bands formed exclusively within the ranks of individual advertising agencies. Proceeds are donated to Chicago’s Off The Street Club, an organization dedicated to helping youths in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Esai Morales joins “Chicago PD” in major new role

ESAI MORALES (NYPD BLUE) is back on the beat with a new recurring role on “Chicago PD,” as Chief Lugo, a 30-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department. The new character will be introduced in a three-show crossover, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bands’ Battle raises $90K to send OTSC kids to camp

A jaw-dropping $90,000 was raised by last week’s fast-paced, rousing, crazy 4th annual “Battle for Hope,” aka the agency “Battle of the Bands” held at the Cubby Bear that benefits the Off the Street Club’s summer camp program.

The funds will send 180 kids from the mean streets of West Garfield to OTSC’s Camp Mathieu in Wheaton. Last year’s $60,000 allowed 120 children to attend.

ARU moves into new studio at 625 N. Michigan April 2

Come April 2, ARU, the venerable recording studio, will settle into its new home at 625 N. Michigan Ave. after 23 memorable years of occupancy over four floors in the tower of the 400 N. Michigan Wrigley Building.

ARU owners/engineers Don Arbuckle and Marc Zeboski are exchanging their present 6,400-sq. ft. for 6,600-sq. ft. of new space on the 24th floor of the Michigan and Ontario building.

Funeral services set for cameraman Andy Lock; two Wisconsin indies start production

Funeral services for longtime sports cameraman Andy Lock of AndyCam, who died from a heart attack Wednesday, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26 at St. John’s Church in Kankakee at 11 a.m.

Mr. Lock had been filming pre-game White Sox interviews prior to the game at U.S. Cellular Field when he was stricken.

JASON ROSIN, former Local 600 business manager, starts his new job Jan. 23 as business manager of IA Studio Mechanics Local 491, with a membership of 550.

Rosin will headquarter in Wilmington, N.C. and cover North and South Carolina, mostly in the film-busy cities of Wilmington, Charlotte and Charleston, and Savannah, Ga.

Rosin, who was appointed, replaces Ben Adams, moved up to the IA’s rep in Florida. Interestingly, Adams and Rosin got to know each other when Adams worked as a DP in Detroit.
