Utopic’s Pryor edits web film for Porsche Motorsports

For Cramer-Krasselt client, Porsche Cars of North America, former Chicago agency producer/director Sam Ciaramitaro directed what turned out to be 22 hours of footage about a classic car race, its drivers and a special breed of fans.

Ciaramitaro who joined New York-based ADDigital Productions in December, teamed with Utopic editor Katherine Pryor, to create a 5-minute video, “The Enduring Bond,” for Porsche’s websitethe first of two such behind-the-scenes videos for the site.

During the four-day, 63rd annual classic “12 Hour Sebring Endurance Race,” in Sebring, Fla., last March, three Porsche 911 RSR cars joined the world’s leading drivers and manufacturers to competed over a nearly four mile bumpy course, once an army airfield.

Separate camera crews following two parallel storylines.  One chronicled how much participating in the Sebring race meant to the three Porsche drivers and crews.

The second followed three generations of male members of the Diaz family on their 2th consecutive attendance of the Sebring race, showing the “enduring bond” between the race and its followers.

“There is humanity on both sides of the story,” says ADDigital partner/executive producer Dan Klein, “And that’s the story Sam and Kat set out to tell and they did so beautifully, keeping the story through-line in sight as they shot and edited.”

Kat and her assistant were on set in a media trailer, not far from the track, loading and syncing footage as it came in throughout each day of the shoot. Organizing in real-time was a priority to ensure a rough cut would be ready after the shoot ended.

“The initial edit went very quickly, a five-day turn around, and we wrapped the end of April,” says Utopic producer Heather Mitchell. The video went live on the Porsche website in May.
