Go behind the scenes of city’s history-rich archives

October is National Archives Month and if that doesn’t sound as exciting, say, as celebrating October’s National Popcorn Poppin’ Month, National Kick Butt Day or National Boston Cream Pie Day, it still has more appeal than World Psoriasis Day or Global Handwashing Day.

To celebrate this occasion, 27 organizations throughout the city — museums, libraries, universities and hospitals —  participating in “Chicago Open Archives: Collection and Connecting,” Oct. 8-10.

Among these are three exclusively visual media participants: Media Burn Independent Video Archive and Video Data Bank AV Holdings, Oct. 9, and the Creative Audio Archive at Experimental Sound Studio, Oct. 10.

This is a unique opportunity to go to behind the scenes of unique and invaluable historical materials and engage with archivists, librarians and curators.

One hour tours will be held throughout each of the three days, all of which can be found here.
