Fan fave Bruce Campbell hosts Horror Film Festival

Horror Fest host Bruce Campbell

Horror films come in many genres and some of the best of them will screen Aug. 20-23 at Bruce Campbell’s 2nd annual Horror Film Festival at the Muvico Rosemont 18 theatre, only a few blocks from the concurrent Wizard World Comic Con at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont.

Presented by Wizard World, the host of the Horror Film Fest is veteran actor Campbell, best known as Ash Williams in “Evil Dead,” the franchise created and directed by Sam Raimi, and the star of  “The Army of Darkness.”

He will present a host of favorite stars, directors and writers from TV, movies, graphic novels, video games and comics during the four-day Comic Con.

“We’ve covered just about all of our favorite scary things,” says festival director Josh Goldbloom. “Vampires, psychotic breakdowns, cannibals, killer dogs, contagious diseases, mummies, bad decisions, and easily the most evil half man, half bunny rabbit of all time.”

On Open Night, Thursday, Aug. 20, Campbell will introduce “Tales of Halloween, the anthology of short film films from some of the best indie horror filmmakers. He also will lead a post screening Q&A discussion with actor Barry Bostwick, the directors and producers.

Campbell also will speak after Saturday’s 7 p.m. 2002 “Bubba Ho-Tep,” in which he stars.  It’s a “can’t miss” since it features Elvis and JFK, both alive and in nursing homes, as they battle an ancient Egyptian mummy for the souls of their fellow residents.

At the Muvico Rosemont 18 theatre, 9701 Bryn Mawr. Screenings are free for Wizard World badge holders (space permitting) unless otherwise noted. A limited number of festival badges and single tickets are available for fans who are not registered for Wizard World.
